EMDR

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based treatment for PTSD and other disorders.

Treatment follows an 8-phase protocol, and can be customized to the needs of each client.

The 8 phases include:

  1.  History taking and treatment planning
  2.  Stabilization and preparation
  3.  Access and activation
  4.  Desensitization
  5.  Installation
  6.  Body scan
  7.  Closure
  8.  Reassessment

The history and preparation phases of treatment ensure that clients are equipped with tools to manage difficult emotions prior to trauma-focused work. There are a variety of ways EMDR therapy can be customized to the needs of each client, and tailored to ensure that treatment effectively balances safety and progress.

My practice of EMDR is integrative, meaning that I incorporate techniques and tools from complementary modalities, such as Polyvagal theory, structural dissociation theory, IFS and cognitive interventions.
